With the announcement of the a la carte, all of the significant gaming awards have been assigned.  Here’s a summary of the winners for 2019:

SdJ – Just One
Kennerspiel – Wingspan
DSP – Wingspan
IGA Multiplayer – Root
IGA 2-player – Lincoln
Golden Geeks – Root
Dice Tower – Root
a la carte – Belratti
Meeples Choice Awards – Quacks of Quedlinburg, Teotihuacan, Brass: Birmingham

The most honored games are Root, with three overall awards and one major, and Wingspan, which took two major awards.  Quacks’ Meeples Choice award will go nicely with the Kennerspiel award that it won last year.

That’s all she wrote for this year’s awards.  Keep your eyes open for the Essen games which might have the best chance of snagging one of these beauties next year!

The Dice Tower Award is a 2018 award, I believe. The 2019 award will not be handed out until the middle of 2020 … but this is probably true for most of the other awards as well. So Wingspan, e.g., was not eligible for the Dice Tower Award, but for the SdJ.

Michael, unfortunately the different awards cover different time periods. The SdJ awards, the DSP, the IGA awards, and possibly the a la carte have a period of eligibility from July of 2018 to June of 2019. I think all of the others are based on 2018 designs, although things can be even looser than that. So in some ways, we are comparing apples and oranges, but we interpret things as best we can.

  4. Root also won Goblin Magnifico Award that is Italian award for gamers game by La Tana dei Goblin (www.goblins.net). I’m one of the committee members

Gioco dell’Anno (Italian game of the year, where Caterina is one of the committee members, went to El Dorado (first published in Italy in 2019).

    Good play
