Adult fans of UNO card games will love this daring take on the classic game. It plays like regular UNO matching color and number, but if a Dare Card is played, the player must decide if they are willing to risk doing the dare versus the penalty of drawing cards. There are four levels of dares: mild, medium, spicy, and fuego! A chance roll of the die determines which dare players must perform. A card with a “reverse” icon on it forces the player who played the Dare Card to perform the dare! But the party doesn’t end there, these cards are durable, waterproof plastic cards to make them completely spill-proof and comes with a handy clip to keep them together! Makes a great gift for fans and game lovers ages 18 years old and up.

This was a game that I thought was just an inside joke when I saw it on the price list at GenCon, but as it turns out, it’s a real thing!  It’s a version of UNO definitely made for adults only, and as you might suspect, probably best played with a fair amount of inebriation – both in the sense that players will be more free to enact the dares, but I suspect that they will also be much more enjoyable to witness in said state.

Blissfully, the rules for the most part are very similar to what you would expect from UNO – and I think most people already know how to play it.  UNO is a shedding game; each player is dealt a hand of 7 cards, and on your turn, you must play a card that matches the number or color of the previously played card.  If you cannot, you draw a single card from the deck, decide if you can or want to play, and then the next person goes.  There are some cards that will cause the next player to be skipped or for the turn order to be reversed.  Other cards cause players to draw cards, and all of these cards also now include the DARE option! (More on this in a second).  The goal is to play all the cards in your hand, and when you get down to 1 card, you have to exclaim “UNO!” or else you draw two cards as a penalty.  The player to play their final hand card wins.

But what about the dares?  These come up as options any time a card forces you to draw cards.  If you want, you can take a dare instead of drawing cards.  There are four levels of dares, each with their card listing the 16 options.  If you choose to take a dare, you roll the dare die and then the results will tell you what level of dare to take!

The die could also show a Truth icon, at which point, the person who played the draw card gets to ask you a question which you must answer truthfully or now draw 4 cards!  Alternatively, there is also a reverse card which now forces the original player to roll the dice themselves and then do the dare!

There are 16 cards that cause drawing, and each has its own family of dares.  They are generally related to each other.  For instance, here are the options for Dare #2:

Mild – bark like a chihuahua

Medium – Chase your tail like a dog

Spicy – Drop and pretend to “#2” like a dog

Fuego – Hump the couch

So… yeah, that’s how the game goes.  It definitely has an audience, and thirty years ago when I was social chair of my Fraternity, this would have been a mainstay of Friday night fun!  The cards are made out of a waterproof plastic because assuredly there will be beverages spilled in the playing of this game.  Each card also has an oval shaped hole at each edge.  Why? There is also a carabiner clip to hold all the cards because I”m pretty sure the box of Uno Dare Adults Only will either get lost or not survive the fun of the game!  (Of course, there is nothing to keep the die handy, so I don’t know if that will eventually need to be made into a phone app or something….)

For the right group, and in the right circumstances, this looks to be a fun way to spend your evening.  After reading the title, you probably already know whether or not you fit in that target group!
