Well, been home for 48 hours, and still reeling from the travel and jet-lag (and double time at work to make up for missing last week). Will plan to write up more soon – possibly as early as tonight… I’m still not entirely sure what the full list of games is this year because I seem to have mis-placed one of my shipping manifests. But, to whet your appetite, here’s a picture of the games and game boxes that I have at home… I think I have un-nested all the boxes, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ll have to recheck everything when I get home from work.
(I say games and game boxes because there are a bunch of games that will be incomplete until the box contents arrive in the box being shipped from Essen!)
I’ll try to get more written tonight or tomorrow… I had planned to do it last night, but I kind of fell asleep on the couch after dinner. Stupid jet lag!
Until your next appointment,
The Gaming Doctor
Now THAT is a haul! So did you nest boxes inside of one another and then pack components as possible? Gotta be a strange sort of artform to pull that off!
And if you think I brought home a lot- look at Ted’s haul: http://cf.geekdo-images.com/images/pic1453569_lg.jpg
That is a beautiful shot, Dale. More than anything, I am jealous of the ability of Spiel attendees to acquire English-language versions of games long before their US releases (I STILL can’t buy an English copy of Pictomania). And, although I usually just import the games I want right away, my “Die Paläste von Carrara” will always feel inferior to your “The Palaces of Carrara.” ;-)
Ben, your Die Paläste von Carrara is just as special as my Palaces of Carrara! :) I have had a philosophical change in the past few years… I used to try to avoid getting games that I would later be able to get domestically, but the delays of games I really really wanted has changed that. I now see the chance to get games a few weeks/months early as one of the benefits of making the trip to Essen. I will try to write up a bit more later tonight and make a better list of the games.
And as nice as my haul is, it’s only about 60% what Ted’s is (see link above)
Where did you find a copy of Enigma? I kept looking through Spiel for it and never was able to find a copy. It sounded like a great game.
Roy, it wasn’t really at Essen… I had talked with Touko (the designer) earlier this fall, and he hand carried one copy for me. Thus far, there is no English distribution, but I am fairly sure that Touko had a number of meetings trying to set such a deal up – with the fairly beat up copy that I’ve now managed to inherit. And, I’m not complaining about the condition – I’m just happy to have a copy!
D
That copy really took some hit along the way… sorry for that Dale! I hope you enjoy the game nevertheless :)
