Heroscape: RenegadeCon October 2026 Report (Part 1)

Well, fellow fans of Heroscaper (and those who are weirdly fascinated by my obsession with this crazy miniatures combat system), it’s time once again to recap Renegade Games virtual “convention” (RenegadeCon) and the new information they revealed about the next wave of armies and terrain (due to be released in the first half of 2027).

Just a quick lore reminder for those of you playing along at home: thanks to Thormun’s rebellion, the traditional relationships of the various Valkyrie generals has been upended, and four alliances have emerged:

  • The New Alliance: Jandar & the remains of defeated Utgar’s armies
  • The Clockwork Combine: Einar & Volarak
  • The Umbral Covenant: Vydar and Revna
  • The Verdant Pact: Ullar & Aquilla

The October 2026 releases (coming REAL soon!) favored the Clockwork Combine and the New Alliance… so these new releases will let us lean into the other two groups of warriors.

We’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s get going!

FEBRUARY 2027

Valda’s Vow: Seelie Court of the Verdant Pact

We’ve never had fey folk in Heroscape before… and that’s really a surprise, both from a lore perspective (what Valkyrie General wouldn’t love to have that kind of power on their side?) and from “cool minis, dude” perspective as well.

  • Oberon
    • As an English major who loves Shakespeare (and is particularly fond of a weird production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream set in the early 1960s), seeing Oberon show up is a treat. The Seelie King can command Dwarves, Elves, and Fey using his power as well as “welcoming” wanderers close to him, enabling him to gather protection or even sneak up on an unsuspecting foe.
    • He’s got a bunch of defense value (6) but only a mild 2 dice attack – though he can attack at range 4.
  • The Green Knight
    • As an English major who loves the Arthurian legends (as evidenced by my love for the game Tales of the Arthurian Knights), it’s really nice to see The Green Knight make an appearance here with powers that reflect that classic legends of his challenge: you may hit me once (no tricks!) and I will get to return the blow.
    • He’s got no defense – but a lot of life points (7!) and the ability to deal some serious damage with his attack value of 5.
    • “Sir Gawain & the Green Knight” is actually pretty darn good for an alliterative poem from the 14th century. (Yes, again, I was an English major.)
  • Seelie Courtiers
    • A set of four tricky fey who can use their Teeny-Tiny power to avoid special powers and special attacks… but more importantly can distract adjacent enemy figures with their Dancing Lights and reduce their defense value.
    • This crew is not for attacking – they are in your army to annoy and give others (for example, the Green Knight) even more devastating attacks.

The set also include a new glyph – the Glyph of Oberron, which lets you transfer wounds to whoever is standing on the glyph. (Sneaky idea: Oberron “welcomes” a foe when he’s standing next to the glyph then hands them his wounds!) There is also a new treasure – an Enchanted Mirror that gives you the base stats of a figure within 6 spaces for the rest of the turn.

This set will be $45 for unpainted and $65 for pre-painted. All of the heroes and squads in this pack are unique.

Valda’s Vow: Fury of the Verdant Pact

Two creepy weird creatures and a dwarf knight riding a boar into battle – all in the service of Aquilla. Yes, please.

  • Uma the Cecaelia
    • Not to be confused with Uma Thurman, this small but ferocious beast can turn land spaces around herself into water. There are so many very cool things you could do with this power… I can’t wait to get her to the table.
    • Her small size belies her decent 3 attack and more impressive 4 defense and 4 life points.
    • I was surprised she was not Unfathomable – but that won’t impede her effectiveness in any way.
  • Kaijaax
    • King Kaijaax to you, pitiful human. This radioactive dracostacean (yep, cross between a dragon and a giant crab) is, in the words of Fezzig, “coming for your soul!” He can choose not to let terrain affect him, he can command the Molten Crustaceans, and his radioactivity reduces the defense value of anyone within two spaces who aren’t the same species.
    • He’s not only the stuff of nightmares as a figure – he’s also got 8 life points, an attack of 5 and defense of 6. And he glows in the dark!
    • I can’t wait to put him in an army!
  • Maeve Sunderstone
    • Always happy to see more dwarves… and more characters riding steeds into battle. Maeve is able to charge through groups of figures with her special Sunderstone’s Charge attack, plus her Runehammer can knock back single-space figures she attacks with a normal attack.
    • She’s lightning fast – well, at least the boar she is riding is fast (movement of 8!). Her solid attack & defense (both 4) and 6 life points means she can be potent force to deal with groups of oncoming zombies or Marro… or even dwarves not loyal to the Verdant Pact!

New glyphs for this box include the Glyph of Nastra (a tournament-friendly version of the Glyph of Astrid) and the Volatile Rune treasure which explodes when the holder is killed.

This set will be $45 for unpainted and $55 for pre-painted. All of the heroes and squads in this pack are unique.

Valda’s Vow: Thunderhoof Cavalry

Much like some of the fall 2026 squad expansions, the Thunderhoof Cavalry comes with two identical common squads so you can beef up your dwarven army without splurging on multiple boxes.

  • Thunderhoof Cavalry
    • Their Gallant bonding allows them to activate Knight or Dwarf heroes… and the more dwarves and knights within 3 clear sight spaces of them, the more powerful and better defended they are. (Yes, that makes Maeve a really powerful leader for these boar-riding warriors.
    • You can always buy more of these and make a huge dwarven cavalry… just sayin’.

This set will be $35 for unpainted and $55 for pre-painted.

Valda’s Vow: Mariedian Resistance

So we always knew that Alpha Prime (the home of the Soulborgs) was a rough place – we know now it is basically Earth post-Skynet. In other words, there are still some organic lifeforms fighting a guerilla war against the Soulborgs.

While these figures have never been in a Heroscape set, they have been around the game since the 2004 TV commercial from the year the game was launched.

  • Mariedian Resistance
    • They work well together – coordinating their attacks against a single figure. The same holds true in defense – their defense power increases each time a friendly Soldier has defended this player turn.
    • Yes, that makes them excellent squads to slot into your GI Joe-based armies.
    • As with the Thunderhoof Cavalry, these common boxes come with two squads per box.

This set will be $35 for unpainted and $55 for pre-painted.

Two Extra Things

The pre-order promo for February 2027 is – appropriately – Cupid. He flies around the battlefield, using his Arrow of Love to cause havoc (and a potential love connection) between opposing figures.

Additionally, the good folks at Renegade Game Studios gave us old skool players a gift, courtesy of Colby Dauch’s hard drive. They’ve managed to publish the Lost Lore from Wave 9 of the original Heroscape. Check it out!

OK, that gets us through February. Part 2 is coming soon with March releases followed by Part 3 with May releases and the Designer Roundtable. See you soon!
