Game Design: gioco e giocare tra teoria e progetto
Dear Gamers
I’m proud to announce one of the novelty presented during the last edition of PLAY: The Games Festival. It is a book about Game Design I have contributed to realize inserting quotes from our The Art of Design: interviews to games designers. The authors are Maresa Bertolo (teacher of Games Design at Politecnico di Milano) and her Ph.D student Ilaria Mariani. Inside the book contributions of many other person including games designers Marco Valtriani and Spartaco Albertarelli.
It is a small piece of our web-site inside a great accademic publication about games design and I really hope will got an english edition in the future.
With contributions from: Spartaco Albertarelli, Francesca Antonacci, Ennio Bilancini, Leonardo Boncinelli, Francesca Corrado, Gabriele Ferri, Enrico Gandolfi, Andrea Ligabue, Dario Maggiorini, Laura A. Ripamonti, Marco Valtriani, VIGAMUS
Why do we play?
What are games, really?
How to design games?
In this historical moment the game turns out to be more and more present in our lives, not only as a popular activity, but also as a vehicle for contents’ communication and for best practices’ fostering. The recreational activity has taken on new meanings and has become full of potential and opportunities that may play a crucial role in our daily lives.
This book provides the fundamentals of the Game Studies discipline, analysing origins, evolution and research horizons, in a path among the main areas of theoretical interest, thanks to the contributions of authors from different disciplines.
The text also recounts the phases of the game design project, describing its processes and proposing a methodology recently consolidated and suitable for every type of game, regardless its platform or digital/non digital details.
The whole book is accompanied by The Voice of the Designer, a dialog with thoughts, recommendations and tips coming from interviews of Game Designer of international significance.
